A. Your Goals for the GTEC Project

You have been involved in the GTEC Project for about a year. Please describe any goals related to the GTEC project that you have accomplished during this past year.

GoalsAchieved. Project Goal #1

B. Self-Assessment of Geospatial Knowledge and Skills

How would you rate your level of expertise in using geotechnologies in your instruction?
Novice - I can do it but only with a lot of outside assistance and my use is still pretty unsophisticated
Advanced Beginner - I have more experience and comfort with it than when I was a beginner, but I still need some help to do it well
Competent - If given the time, access to resources, and a detailed plan I can do a pretty good job integrating geotechnologies into my instruction
Proficient - I have had lots of experience and success in integrating geotechnologies, but I still feel that I have a lot to learn
Expert - I almost don't have to think about it; I recognize potential applications in my instruction and know instinctively how to go about it; People see me as "the" expert

How would you rate your level of expertise in locating datasets for use in your instruction?

Novice - If someone gets me to the Web site and gives me step by step instructions I can usually download something useful.
Advanced Beginner - If someone gets me to the Web site I can usually download something useful.
Competent - I have a list of my favorite sites and can usually find and download something useful.
Proficient - After thinking about my instructional goals I know exactly what datasets I need and can find and download what I'm looking for on the Web.
Expert - I'm not only proficient at locating datasets but I can adapt them to meet my needs; People see me as "the" expert.

How would you rate your level of expertise in creating datasets for use in instruction?

Novice - With a lot of assistance I think I could create a really simple dataset.
Advanced Beginner - I think I could create a simple dataset with minimal help
Competent - Given time, access to resources, and step by step instructions I could create a useful dataset for use in instruction.
Proficient - I can find and use data from several different sources and of different types and merge them into a fairly complex dataset.
Expert - I have created at least one dataset that is now available on the Web; People see me as "the" expert.

How extensive is your use of geotechnologies in your instruction?

I have only used geotechnologies in one unit of instruction in one subject and at one grade level (e.g., one unit in 9th grade earth science).
I have used geotechnologies in more than one unit of instruction but in just one topical area and at one grade level (e.g., two or more different units in 9th grade earth science, all about stream management).
I have used geotechnologies in more than one unit of instruction and in different topical areas but at only one grade level (e.g., two or more different units in 9th grade earth science, one about stream management, another about city planning).
I have used geotechnologies in several subjects and and across several grade levels (e.g., several units in 9th grade earth science and 10th grade biology).

C. Information about Students

To what degree do you encourage your students to enter careers that specifically involve the use of geotechnologies?
I have never mentioned it to them.
I have casually mentioned it to them a few times.
I have worked career information into one or more units of instruction that I teach (e.g., by bringing in speakers employed in geospatial careers).
For those students who have expressed keen interest I have found them apprenticeships or in some other way got them involved in real-live geospatial career experiences.

To what extent are your most recent students benefitting from your instruction that involves geotechnologies?

I know for sure they are NOT benefitting
I don't think they are benefitting but I'm not sure
Maybe they are benefitting but I don't have much evidence to back up this claim
I think they are benefitting and I have some evidence to back up this claim
I have solid evidence that they are benefitting a lot

It is a priority to me that my students become skilled in the use of geotechnologies.
